Yo

Report: Yanks tried to get Adrian Gonzalez to play short but Jeter wouldn't budge! In all proverbial seriousness though, in a move that's been pretty obvious for a while now, the Sox, it appears, are getting Adrian for prospects. I'm happy enough getting Dustin and Youk back in the lineup, but with Gonzalez we will be MegaMega.

And with the right field wall supposedly moving in, are we gonna call the new bullpens...Gonzburg? Yeah I know he goes to left a lot anyway--maybe he can teach JD Drew how to do that.

Steve Artin'

Recently the 92nd St Y refunded an audience of people who felt the interview they saw with Steve Martin was "too boring." My reaction to this was, How could Steve Martin ever be boring? Fortunately I found an article by someone who feels the same way.

Pax Man Fever

It's time for the annual "Fun With Sox Pax Names" post!

This year it's very straightforward. But I'm still generally disappointed in their naming system. Each pack has four games, and each one has a "highlighted" team. This year, those teams are the Yanks, the Padres, and the Brewers. The Padres packs are the Padre and the Friar. The Brewers packs are the Bernie Brewer and the Brew Crew. The Yanks packs are the Bomber, the Babe, and the Bambino. Uh...Babe Ruth was a Red Sox star who brought us World Series titles in years with completely un-cringeworthy names such as 1918 and 1916. Okay, fine, go with Babe, whatever, but I still say Red Sox fans aren't comfortable buying things with cutesy Yank-ified names. Okay, maybe no one cares about any of this. But I'm still wondering why the highlighted team gets the whole back named after it. I think I'd rather see creative and dumb over thoughtless and dumb. Oh and you can also get the "Sunday Best," "Saturday Special," or "TGIF," which actually include ALL FOUR games for whichever day you get, which they haven't always done, or the "Patriot's Day," which has Pats Day, a Yanks game, and two others. Then there's the coveted "Opening Day" pack, which is your best chance to get to OD. (Also note that the highlighted team games will also be the only non-April/May/September ones.)

Scary Quaid

Thanks to Amber for sending me this article, the whole scoop on Randy Quaid and his wife.

I'm reminded of when that dude in A Mighty Wind says how he and his wife's belief system isn't one of those "crazy systems," just one that, obviously, sees that...humankind is simply materialized color operating on the 49th vibration. Anyone can see that!

Note: If you knew my friend Kerry Quaid you'd think the title of this post was genius!

Geddy Movin' Up?

This article mentions that Rich Gedman's ready to make the move from the indies to the minors. (He didn't get the New Hampshire job in question--it went to the much less experienced Sal Fasano.) I can't wait till Rich is the Red Sox' "catching coach"! The article also says Luis Rivera will be a Blue Jays coach this year. Will be cool to see him at Fenway in '11.

The Stupid Fucking Media

"BOSTON -- During any Hot Stove season in which the first major subtraction precedes the first impact addition, panic is going to grip Red Sox Nation."

--Ian Browne, the latest on my "dead to me" list

(And yes, I've boycotted almost the entire Boston sports media, but this was the first line of the top story on redsox.com. And I stopped reading the article at that point...except for a glance down the page to see the line "with David Ortiz back in the fold." Somebody please tell me when David Ortiz, the Red Sox' leading home run hitter and RBI man in 2010, was ever "out of the fold." I'm urging you, people, for your own mental health, avoid anything the media says or writes about your sports teams. The only panicking I do is panicking over what they'll say about us and our team next. I hope some media outlet hires me. Not so I can write about the team, but so I can get into the building...and burn it down.)

RIP Frank Drebin

Leslie Nielsen died. I'm not afraid to say it, I am a Leslie Nielsen fan. I even bought "Bad Golf Made Easy" on VHS. The work he did in the Naked Gun movies, and, more importantly, on the short-lived, too-smart-for-idiot-America Police Squad! show, was hilarious. I love how that show only lasts six episodes but people will watch "Celebrity You've Never Heard of Aside From This Show Doing Stuff Around the Goddamn House" over and over and over and over. But anyway....move along. Nothing to see here.

We'll C

2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. There will be all sorts of celebrations. But 2011 will be the 100th season at Fenway. The 100th opening day, etc. Are they celebrating this stuff? Or waiting till '12? Or have I made a horrible math error?
