Expansive Locality

I don't even remember what I was looking up, but I came across the site of a Vermont TV station. In its sports section, it has an icon for each of its "local" teams. I guess since Vermont borders New York state, they include the New York teams, including the tri-state area (meaning NY-NJ-CT), as well as the New England teams, plus Montreal. So this station actually covers the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets, the Patriots, Bills, Giants, and Jets, the Celtics, Knicks, and Nets, the Bruins, Sabres, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and Canadiens, and all the sports at Dartmouth and UVM.

That has to be a record.

Red Sox at Pride, Passion, Pittsburgh Pirates, 1:05. p.m. EDT.

Comments:
Just as impressive as the sheer number of local teams is the variety it includes. Red Sox AND Yankees. Patriots AND Jets. Bruins AND Canadiens. How do you cover all those from both sides?

With 16 major league teams, how much coverage time is the left for Dartmouth athletics?

As a Vermonter for the first 23 years of my life, I believe WPTZ is in Plattsburgh, New York.

That would explain the PTZ. It does seem to be a "Plattsburgh/Burlington" thing these days though.

As for the "both teams" thing--same thing happens in CT. The New Haven stations show highlights of NY and Bos teams. The Danbury radio station even went from carrying Sox games to Yanks games. It was weird to hear the same guy from the station doing the ads saying "your home for Yankees baseball," after he'd recently said "your home for Red Sox baseball."
