The Stupid Fucking Media

"BOSTON -- During any Hot Stove season in which the first major subtraction precedes the first impact addition, panic is going to grip Red Sox Nation."

--Ian Browne, the latest on my "dead to me" list

(And yes, I've boycotted almost the entire Boston sports media, but this was the first line of the top story on redsox.com. And I stopped reading the article at that point...except for a glance down the page to see the line "with David Ortiz back in the fold." Somebody please tell me when David Ortiz, the Red Sox' leading home run hitter and RBI man in 2010, was ever "out of the fold." I'm urging you, people, for your own mental health, avoid anything the media says or writes about your sports teams. The only panicking I do is panicking over what they'll say about us and our team next. I hope some media outlet hires me. Not so I can write about the team, but so I can get into the building...and burn it down.)

Comments:
Well, technically, Ortiz was out of the fold from October 4th until the Sox picked up his option on November 4th.

But not really.

As a Yanks and NY sports fan living in boston, i can say that nothing brings me more joy (read: feeling of safety) than when Boston fans are panicking and focusing on their own team.

Lets me roam around in peace...or at least jab at them until they realize who the real source of angst is normally.

Cheers to your blog though - like polar opposites. I can empathize.

I suspect the 2011/12 offseason is gonna be pretty rough for you.

J. Zo:

But no sane Red Sox fan would "panic" over anything in 2010. We're, like, one of the best teams in baseball. There's nothing wrong. I can't even believe we're using the word "panic"! Yet again! It's all invented by the media because they love to stir shit up.

Amen to that, Jere. The Winter Meetings haven't begun yet, and that is the real heart of the postseason. My trust in Theo and The Trio is still strong and I don't give a damn about any idiot who claims we are "panicking." Morons will write anything to sell newspapers.

whatup.
2 things.

1. i know an otherwise calm, rational dude, who said, sox in 3rd, maybe 4th, when they let victor go. to me, that sounded crazy, but i think that's how people feel. it really seems that so few have the perspective to just wait it out.

2. the celtics coverage is so different. i have been getting more and more into the c's since living up here, and it is actually really fun to follow the mainstream coverage, especially the espn boston blog....it is really really solid, well written, entertaining and pretty objective reporting, and very frequent.

good stuff there.
