Home Opener 2007

How sweet is it to watch the Red Sox playing at Fenway? That's a trick question, as the sweetness scale does not go that high.

Having an 11-1 lead helps, but just seeing the full park and the white uniforms is enough for me.

Kapstein, Drinkwater, and even the C. Everett Koop guy are behind the plate, braving the cold. There was a nice '67 celebration, too, which wasn't shown by EI, which I'm getting a free preview of.

We can thank Weaver for may of these runs, but it's good to see the bats come to life. My good feeling about Drew turned out to be right. He's officially off on the right foot in front of the home crowd, who did a nice job of cheering him during the intros. Of course, Dice got the biggest applause, followed by Pap, according to Orsillo. Beckett has done a fine job with the cushion. Sometimes I wonder, Why can't pitchers just pretend they have a ten-run lead all the time?

This is turning out to be a perfect last day of work for me. Now 13-1 us in the 5th.

"My good feeling about Drew turned out to be right."

That made me laugh out loud.

There's where I wrote it--a few days ago.

Maybe I'm going senile but I remember you being the guy toeing the media line on Drew after the signing and all that garbage about his "hustle" or whatever. Something about a 5 second clip on ESPN where he didn't show enough OOMPH to satisfy you when scoring.

Taking credit for having a good feeling on him now in retrospect after saying those things is funny. To me at least.

It's not like I came out saying Hey everybody, look who's the master of Drew. Everything I've said is right here for people to read. I was never a JD Drew fan. He took over the position and number of one of my favorites. But I'm not gonna root against him or anything. Now I'm watching him in a Sox uni and I'm seeing how it goes, and supporting him. I like having his bat behind P and M. I think I've been fair to the guy. I have every right to knock the guy if he ever doesn't hustle or whatever, just like I do any other guy. But I'm not going to pretend he's not hustling for us.

And I didn't say "my feeling that I had about Drew since the day we got him was right in general." I recently mentioned that after watching him in spring training, I had a good feeling about how his home opener would go. It went well, like I thought and hoped. That's what I was specifically referring to. I wasn't trying to deceive anyone.
