Christened
It didn't start until almost 9:30. It didn't end until after 1. But we got the job done in front of a sea of empty seats at the New Loo. 6-4, and 4-0 against the Swine Fluzies this season. Lester was great, though he had one rough spot with back to back dongs, accounting for all three runs he gave up in 7 innings.
Teixeira stayed a false Yankee tonight, striking out as the potential winning run in the ninth. Pap made it scary, but held on.
Bay and Lowell with homers, and Ortiz had two doubles.
Toronto lost, so we're one game back, and NY is 3.5. With only 136 left to play...
Eckersley and Roberts were fun in the booth tonight. Lots of Eckisms. Hearing them fumble through the promos was tough, though.
Fitting that we'd win our first game at their new stadium, this being our century and all.

The comments on the Lo-Hud blog are hilarious today. The Yanks have been getting the better end of umpiring calls for at least a decade vs. most other teams... these fans are spoiled rotten with entitlement; don't see them even acknowledging when a bad call goes their way. I thought the way Girardi acted about this was really immature and unprofessional, and his team followed suit. Also, the stealing calls BS? That's your f'n problem if we are able to see your signs, not against the rules big baby. But totally inappropriate to threaten retaliation, which IS against the rules... Drew getting drilled after this threat was literally verbalized by a manager is evidence for some suspensions in my opinion.
Can't believe stadium employees told fans that the game was rained out, or even that there was "almost no chance" that the game would be played. On YES they were telling us that it's supposed to be just as bad tonight, if not worse, and they would make every effort to get the game in due to the difficulty of potentially having to reschedule TWO games. But I guess they have different motives: stadium employees benefit from fewer fans, less work, while YES wants to keep people tuned in as long as possible.

I heard the Eck complaining about Papelbon not wasting pitches in the ninth, when he had 0-2 counts, so you are not the only one who has a problem with it!
