No AK Necessary
Well I ended up watching most of the Yanks game and then Kim and I watched some more of Decline II, so I don't have time to do the full gallery from today. Watch for it tomorrow. In the meantime, two things from today. One, check out this pic I took of Pap in the 9th:
(Click to enlarge.) First of all, that wasn't my seat--but it was for the 9th! Anyway, look closely at the sign visible in the bleachers. See it, behind some seats? Right above Pap's head. Look familiar? It's the "I Like Baseball" sign that I took a picture of last month! Does that guy bring the sign to every game or what?
Second, look at the 379 marker in this Kapler shot:
Does it look thin and sleek to you? It did to me, as I remembered how they've been getting bubblier in recent years. I checked my photos, and as you can see in this one from April, they have indeed put the foot-markers on a diet. Same with the 420 sign. I always think about doing a site called StadiWatch, but I'd probably only post things about Fenway anyway. And I do that here already. So, no need.
But I do love finding quirks at ballparks. Like how in the Yanks-Mets game tonight, we found out that the foul poles at Yankee Stadium are behind the fence, as opposed to sprouting up out of the fences themselves (I probably knew this already since Yankee Stadium was still my most attended park until probably these last couple of years, but, maybe not...). So, a ball hit on top of the fence right on the foul line, then skimmed off the pole, and the umps mistakenly called it a non-dong. It didn't matter as the Mets blew the Yanks away. Hank ain't gonna like this one bit! (standings) Can't wait to see the NY papers tomorrow....
In our contest, Manny still needs two for 500. Here are the upcoming contestants: Monday--DPS. Tuesday--Amy. Wednesday--Karin. Thursday, redsock aka Allan of Joy of Sox. I've got softball tomorrow, so I can't go, but, again, if Manny's at 499 going into Tuesday, I'll probably have to go over there. Either way, I've already got my ticket for the Thursday matinee--one of the tix I bought in the very first sale of last off-season. I'm on a mission to see that damn home run!

Was reading thru your recent posts this morning and saw where you mentioned yet again how tickets are always available at the BO.
Is this ALWAYS true, or just usually.
My son and I are planning to come to Boston for a couple of games in August (my first at Fenway - yay!) We bought tiks for our trip to Camden last year through the BO there, but I would hate to travel to Boston and not get in.

Ah, sock, you have not paid attention to my teachings! Step one for planning to go to Fenway in the summer is being ready at your phone or computer or both in the off-season when those tickets go on sale.
Then staying on it all off-season and early season watching for new tix to be released. Sorry to say, you have had so many chances up until now to get your tix! But, hey, I understand if people make the call to take the trip only a few months in advance....so all you can do now is keep checking, keep checking. Worst case you check right up to the night before you leave, then snag them.
If that doesn't work, get there early and get in the day-of-game sales line. If you get there late, go to the scalp-free zone. And then, finally, your last hope, the dreaded scalper. Decide what you want to pay first. Offer that amount. When they say an inevitably higher price, say "no thanks, and start walking away....they'll call you right back and take the deal. These guys don't refuse money.

Thanks! The key to getting down close for Pap is for him to come in when the game is essentially out of hand, AND it starts drizzling....
...or be rich in the first place.

Gagne' Or Gag-me, got razzed like no tomorrow, in the 4th Inning on Saturday, as part of my 2nd Annual Subway Series Avoidance Day Festivities:
I've heard of Despised, but this was FESTIVE.
