That's what he gets for replacing one guy with the same guy (the same except for the shitty fact that he's NOT Trot Nixon) and another guy who was the best shortstop we've had in my lifetime.
These two are lucky we're doing so well overall.
They've got four years each--so there's time for them to come around. But not much time in this town.
Actually, I assume that you hate the BAs of everybody else on the roster right now.
Drew has been a huge disappointment to me. But Trot Nixon did a great job last week reminding me of why I'm very glad that he's not our rightfielder anymore. Very good guy, but zero power anymore, and still can't hit lefties to save his life.
Alex Gonzalez is a better SS than Nomar? Yeah, I know, you were talking about the glove, but Lugo's actually been decent defensively...it's his bat that's been sucking massively.
Nomar was my favorite, but glove-wise, yeah, I'd take A-Gone.
With Nixon, if they were gonna get a Nixon-ish guy, why not just keep Nixon? But we went through this in the off-season... Soon we'll have a nice, young, Lynn/Rice/Evans outfield out there. Supposedly.

I'll never be glad he's not our right fielder anymore, but I'd be happier if we didn't replace him with essentially the same player for a lot more money.

Well, that's where we differ. Trot's done. Drew has been a major disappointment to date (still a relatively short period), and he may very well turn out to be a very expensive bust, but given what I know to this point in time I'd still rather have him over Trot going forward. Of course, I'd rather have about two dozen other corner outfielders over either one of them right now...
You mean Theo's boys?
ReplyDeleteLugo .225
and
Drew .224

Maybe the warm weather will help them.

No, I like Manny's and Tek's.

Maybe because JD Drew isn't a "Nixon-ish" guy?
I'm not big on these "comps," and maybe I'm reading it wrong, but on Drew's BR page, it shows Nixon as the most similar batter to him.

I meant "not similar" in the sense that one is a legitimate 5-tool star player, and the other... isn't.
ReplyDeleteI've always discounted those similarity scores because they're obvious nerd stats.
