Won a night game on the Fourth of July.
ReplyDeleteGood guess. I'd say that's not true, though. If it turns out to be true, you'll get some points, but that's not what I was thinking of. Will do the research later, I gotta go...
ReplyDeleteSteal a base off Fisk at Fenway?
ReplyDeleteWell, given the game was at Comiskey, that was a terrible guess. I think I know the answer but I'll wait.
ReplyDeleteI still have to give it the official "no on Fisk/Fenway."
ReplyDeleteWon a game at Cominsky the night after losing to a Knuckleballer?
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just looked through Hoyt Wilhelm's entire career to try to disprove this. Then I got to Hough--and finally reache dthe game in question, only to find out Thigpen got the win in that game, not Hough. So you could say "lost in a game where a knuckleballer started..." But this isn't what I was thinking of anyway.
ReplyDeleteJuly 16th, 1977: Red Sox beat White Sox 4-3 at Comiskey on a Saturday night, a day after after losing to knuckleballer Wilbur Wood.
ReplyDeleteYour answer is incorrect.
Note: I took way too long on finding that. When I got to this game, I saw Wood beat us on a Friday, and, having just found another situation where he beat us on a Saturday and knew the next game would be a day game, which it was, I was like "Oh, crap, weekend game." Then I thought, Wait, Comiskey! Saturday night baseball, even in '77, there's a chance! Sure enough, it was a night game. I'm very happy to have solved this. I was at vendetta level with it.
Play against the Chicago White Sox on Independence Day?
ReplyDeleteThat's it. Way to pick up on the secret clue, Kara. 5 points.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned something that gave it away in a post today. I have to be movin' this quiz season along....
ReplyDeleteNice! The secret clue definitely gave it away. Thanks, Jere.
